Careers and Core Values

This page is for people thinking about working with us. It covers who we are, the values our team lives by, and how to reach us.

Who we are

Every member of our team brings 7+ years of experience relevant to the work we do.

Our core values

One of the most important aspects of how we run things at Acorn is the values that our teammates have. There are so many amazing human beings that don't share these values and that is OK, it just means they are not the right fit for us here at Acorn. These values are not aspirational, nor are they something we try to teach people who come to work with us. In everything that we do, whether it is working with our clients or hanging out socially, our team lives and breathes these values. Because these are so important and they govern who we choose to work with, we routinely make changes to them as we learn better ways to communicate what is in our hearts and minds.

Insatiable Thirst for Truth

We believe that the better we understand the world we live in, the more responsibility we can take for it and the more we can help our clients understand the world and take responsibility. This includes an insatiable thirst for learning, and harnessing an unending curiosity about the world we live in.

A fun and collaborative community

There are many wonderful and gifted technologists that consider themselves “lone wolves” and work best alone. Respectfully, they are not the best fit for us here at Acorn. We choose the path that is more collaborative and inclusive and improves our sense of community. We recognize that we are better together than we are apart. We communicate to all stakeholders as much as we can to involve all in the process who may be impacted.

Ownership mindset

We err on the side of assuming too much responsibility than too little. We want to be confident in what we take on as responsibility for our clients. Our vision is for our team to share in the ownership of what we build.

Build trust

What we really sell to the market is trust. Trust means being reliable consistently over time, being competent, showing care, and being sincere (do what you say and say what you mean). Everything we do at Acorn is designed to strengthen trust. Those that take steps to undermine it don't belong here at Acorn.

Bias For Action

It sucks to have to chase down someone who agreed to take responsibility for something, asking "what's going on with that?" To be reactive to issues introduces unwanted delays into the system. "If I could, I would add an Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt not distort, delay, or sequester information. You can drive a system crazy by muddying its information streams." (Donella Meadows). In everything that we do, we try to avoid introducing artificial delays into our work. Or to quote Darrel Royal via John Maxwell: "Luck follows speed."

We are always open to hearing from people who think they would make a good team member and support our clients.
